Bergamot No. 353

Bergamot No. 353 is a bright citrus perfume built on three notes: Calabrian bergamot, grapefruit and petitgrain. Calabrian bergamot opens it sharp and sunlit, grapefruit lifts it with a sparkling tartness, and petitgrain runs green and slightly bitter underneath so it never reads as simple citrus. Everything else in the blend — neroli, cedarwood, amber, soft musk — is there to hold those three up. Hand-blended in the Southern Highlands at 20–25% concentration, and it wears the same on anyone. Formerly sold as Solstice — same blend, same bottle, new name.

The scent

Calabrian bergamot hits first. Not polite, not tentative — a full, brilliant burst of Italian citrus that opens like warm light flooding a room. Bergamot from Calabria is the reference material for the note, and it shows: rounder and less soapy than ordinary citrus. Grapefruit follows with a sparkling tartness that lifts it higher. You notice it. Everyone near you notices it.

The heart settles into something more complex than expected. Petitgrain — distilled from the leaves and twigs of the same bitter orange tree — brings a crisp, aromatic greenness that is slightly bitter and slightly herbal. Neroli comes off the flowers of that same tree and softens the edge with a warm orange-blossom glow. Cedarwood holds the centre with dry, woody depth. This is where the scent reveals it is not simply a fresh citrus. There is architecture underneath.

The base is golden. Amber radiates warmth that sits close to the skin, rich but never heavy. Soft musk smooths the edges into a luminous dry-down that lasts well into the evening. Hours later, you catch it on your collar and it still feels considered — still feels like the right choice.
