The buyer's guide
Everything worth knowing before you choose.
Natural cologne, made in Australia — what that means
Every scent on this page is hand-blended in a workshop in Moss Vale, NSW — not white-labelled, not decanted from someone else's juice, not bottled overseas and relabelled. Small batches, filled and labelled here.
Vegan and cruelty-free, with no animal-derived musks or fixatives. The trade-off of working this way is a short register rather than seventy scents, and the occasional sell-out. The upside is a genuine 20–25% concentration, which is not a strength most houses hold.
Longer read: how these are actually made.
How long should a cologne last?
Longevity comes down to concentration — how much fragrance oil is actually in the bottle. Most designer colognes sit between 15 and 20%. An eau de toilette can be as low as 5%. Every Stuga scent is blended at 20–25%, which is why a long-lasting cologne shouldn't need topping up at lunchtime.
The roll-on oil lasts longest of the three formats, because there's no alcohol in it to flash off. Full explanation: why your perfume fades by lunch.
Pick by scent, not by label
- Sandalwood, birch and cedar — warm, dry, grounded. Sandalwood No. 413, White Musk No. 421 and Cedarwood No. 443. Browse woody scents.
- Oud, leather and tobacco — the darkest things we make. Oud No. 401 and Tobacco Leaf No. 407. Browse amber and oriental.
- Fresh and aquatic — clean, bright, good in heat. Neroli No. 437, Fig No. 431 and Bergamot No. 353. Browse fresh and citrus.
- Warm and spiced — cinnamon, clove, rose and wood. Cinnamon No. 425 and Desert Rose No. 209. Browse vanilla and gourmand.
Cologne oils and alcohol-free sprays
Every scent comes three ways at the same strength: classic eau de parfum spray, alcohol-free spray, or roll-on cologne oil. Same blend in all three — only the carrier changes.
The oil sits closer to the skin and lasts longest. The alcohol-free spray suits sensitive skin and won't sting straight after a shave, which is the practical reason a lot of men switch to it rather than a preference.
Buying cologne as a gift
The 10ml Traveller is the honest way to gift fragrance you haven't smelled on the person. Full strength, a few weeks of wear, and nobody blind-buys a 50ml bottle for someone whose taste they're guessing at.
If you need one answer: Sandalwood No. 413. It's the one we hand across the table first, it works twelve months of the year, and it suits almost anyone. Works just as well if you're buying for yourself and can't decide.
“Men's” is where you start, not who it's for
Nothing on this page is formulated for men. These are the scents men pick most often, which is a different claim entirely.
Oud No. 401 — the darkest, oudh-heaviest thing in the range — sells heavily to women. Cinnamon No. 425 sells about evenly. If a scent works on your skin, it's yours. Here's why we don't split fragrance by gender — and the women's page is the same idea from the other side.
