Silvertip is the softest, finest grade of badger hair, and the top of our shaving brush range. The tips feel like silk on the face, the 23mm knot holds more water than any other grade, and it builds a dense lather with very little effort. Each one is set by hand into solid timber in Moss Vale, including hand-picked Tasmanian Huon pine. Buy it once and you won't need another.

The bristle

Silvertip hair comes from the outermost layer of the badger's coat. The hairs are long, very fine at the tip and pale, which gives the knot its silver band. Fine tips mean a softer feel on the skin, and more hair packed into the knot means it holds far more water. In practice that means a thick, protective lather from a hard soap in a few strokes.

It's also the longest-lasting bristle. Rinsed and dried properly, a silvertip knot gives a decade or more of daily shaves. It's the top of our badger range, above the Classic and Premium.

Choose your handle

Same silvertip knot, your choice of timber. Every handle is cut, finished and sealed by hand, so the photos show the style, not your exact brush. Grain, figure and colour will differ. If you'd like to see what's on the bench before you order, get in touch and I'll send photos of the actual pieces.

Teak

Warm and even · $249

Golden brown with a straight, even grain. Naturally oily and at home in a wet bathroom.

Olive Wood

Heavily figured · $249

Dense and heavy, with swirling dark lines through a pale base. Every handle is different.

Huon Pine

Hand-carved Tasmanian · $349

Pale, fine-grained and naturally fragrant from its own oil. Huon pine grows only in western Tasmania and takes centuries to mature. Ours came from pallets of offcuts I bought in person at the timber yard years ago, before they stopped selling it. Every handle is turned from that stock by hand, and once it's gone there won't be more like it.

Heartwood Huon Pine

The densest Huon · $500

Cut from the heartwood, the oil-rich core of the log. It's harder and heavier in the hand than regular Huon, polishes to a stone-like finish and carries a stronger scent. Some pieces are knotted and figured, others clean and plain. You're paying for the density, not the pattern. Ask before ordering and I'll send photos of what's available.

Signature brushes

We also make a small number of Signature brushes: silvertip knots on one-off handles carved from heavily knotted Huon pine. Each one is different, so they aren't sold online. You'll find them at our stall at The Rocks Markets in Sydney.

Care
How to look after a silvertip brush

Rinse the soap out after every shave, shake off the water and hang it bristles-down on the Wave stand, held at the neck. Drying bristles-down keeps water out of the base of the knot. That's all a silvertip needs to last ten years or more.

The knots come from long-standing suppliers in the UK, China and Germany. Every brush is made, finished and packed by hand in Moss Vale.

Is silvertip worth it over Premium?
If you shave with a brush every day and want the softest feel and fastest lather, yes. The difference is clear on the face. If you're still learning, the Premium is the better place to start.
Will my brush look like the photos?
Not exactly. Every handle is a different piece of timber, so grain and colour vary. Ask and I'll send photos of the pieces on the bench.
Is the stand included?
Yes. Every Silvertip ships with a Wave stand, which holds the brush bristles-down by the neck so it dries properly.
