The bristle

Badger hair is the traditional shaving bristle because it holds water, and water is what turns a hard soap into a thick, warm lather. The Classic uses pure badger: a little firmer at the tips when new, and lighter and more flexible in the knot than our Premium and Silvertip grades. That makes it forgiving while you work out how much water and pressure your soap likes.

The knots come from long-standing suppliers in the UK, China and Germany we've bought from for over 15 years. Each one is set into its handle, finished and packed by hand in Moss Vale.

Break it in and care
Breaking in and looking after your brush

Expect a few loose hairs in the first shaves. That's normal and settles within a week as the knot softens. After every shave, rinse the soap out, shake off the water and hang it bristles-down on the Wave stand, held at the neck. Drying bristles-down stops water sitting in the base of the knot, which is what makes brushes smell and shed.

What's the difference between the Classic and the Premium?
The knot. The Classic is pure badger on a 19mm knot: lighter, more flexible, and a little firmer at the tips. The Premium is a denser, softer 23mm badger knot that holds more water and builds lather faster. Most people start on a Classic and move up later.
Is the stand included?
Yes. Every Classic comes with a Wave stand, which holds the brush bristles-down by the neck so it dries properly.
Will it work with any shaving soap?
Yes, hard soaps and creams. Pair it with our handmade shaving soap, or get both together in the Shaving Set.
