Where wet shaving begins. The Essentials badger builds a proper, satisfying lather on a softer, more flexible knot — capable, well-made and built to last. Everything you need to shave well from day one.

Made to be kept

It's a properly nice thing to own for the money — a real badger knot on a hand-turned timber handle, or clean matte-black polymer. Made by hand in Moss Vale, it's a brush you'll keep for years, and a cracking first-brush gift: add a name to a timber handle and it's properly personal.

Choose your handle

Choose a handle turned by hand in Moss Vale in teak or olive wood — or clean matte-black polymer, light and completely waterproof.

  • TeakWarm and golden, with a straight, even grain that wears like iron.
  • OliveWild, swirling figure — no two pieces remotely alike.
  • Matte black polymerLight, modern and fully waterproof — our most low-fuss handle.

No two timber handles are alike — the one you receive is one of one.

Custom engraving

Add initials, a name or a short message to any timber handle — just choose "Custom Engraving (+$20)" when you pick your handle. A nice touch if it's a gift. Timber handles only (not polymer).

Why it works

  • Genuine badger knot — soft enough for daily comfort, firm enough to build a real lather
  • A proper way into wet shaving — your first brush or a dependable daily
  • Wave stand included — dries the bristles the right way up
  • Your choice of handle — hand-turned timber or modern matte-black polymer
  • Made by one person in Moss Vale

How to build a great lather

New to a shaving brush, or buying for someone who is? A rich lather takes about a minute.

  1. Soak the brush in warm water for a minute to soften the bristles while you wet your face.
  2. Load the brush — swirl it over your shaving soap for 15–20 seconds, until the brush is full of soap.
  3. Build the lather, working the brush in circles and adding a few drops of water at a time until it turns thick and glossy. You'll get a richer, more even lather in a bowl — there's room to whip air through it.
  4. Swirl and strike it back and forth across your face to lay down a slick, protective layer, then shave. Rinse the brush, shake it out and stand it bristles-down on the Wave to dry.

Questions, answered

Is a starter brush good enough?
Yes — it builds a proper, satisfying lather and shaves beautifully. Move up the ladder when you want denser, softer bristle and more backbone.
Are badger shaving brushes worth it?
Even at the entry level, a badger knot holds more water than synthetic or boar and builds a warmer, richer lather. With simple care it lasts for years.
Badger or synthetic at this price?
Same $69 for the matte-black handle. Badger holds more water; synthetic is vegan and quicker-drying.
Will it shed or need breaking in?
A few loose hairs early is normal. Give badger about a week of shaves to soften and it settles in.
Timber or polymer handle?
Timber for warmth, one-of-a-kind grain and the option to engrave; matte-black polymer for a light, waterproof, zero-fuss handle.
Where do the bristles come from?
Our bristles come from the traditional heartlands of wet-shaving — the United Kingdom, China and Germany — through trusted suppliers we've worked with for over 15 years. Every brush is then made, finished and packed by hand in Moss Vale.

Start here, start right — everything you need to shave well.
