Desert Rose No. 209 is a dark floral perfume built on three notes: desert rose, agarwood and cashmere. The rose at its centre is not a garden rose — it is drier, deeper, a velvet bloom opening in warm air. Agarwood runs underneath it, resinous and quietly smoky, and cashmere wraps the whole composition in something soft enough to wear against the skin all day. Everything else in the blend — geranium, patchouli, a whisper of clove, soft musk — is there to hold those three up. Hand-blended in the Southern Highlands at 20–25% concentration, and it wears the same on anyone. The newest bottle in the register — No. 209, on the florals shelf.

The scent

The rose arrives first, but not the way you know it. This is rose with the water taken out — velvet-petalled, slightly spiced, closer to dusk than to a spring garden. Geranium sharpens its edges with a green, faintly peppery lift, so the opening reads elegant rather than sweet. It is a floral, unmistakably — but one that has been somewhere.

The heart is where the darkness gathers. Agarwood — the resinous heartwood the world's great oud perfumes are built on — smoulders underneath the rose, deep and quietly smoky without ever tipping into harshness. Patchouli adds an earthy, almost velvet texture, and a whisper of clove warms the spice at the centre. Rose over dark wood is one of perfumery's oldest and most magnetic pairings, and this is our version of it: unhurried, intimate, sure of itself.

The dry-down is where the name earns itself. Cashmere — a soft, enveloping warmth somewhere between fine wool and warm skin — smooths the smoke and the petals into a single seamless glow. Soft musk carries it for hours. What is left on the skin by evening is not rose, not wood, but something in between: warm, worn-in, and unmistakably yours.

Wear it to dinner and it holds the table. Wear it under a coat in July and it blooms every time you move. This is a desert rose perfume for anyone who finds ordinary rose too polite — a floral with shadow in it, built to be remembered.
